Urban Jungle Bloggers | Spring styling

March 26, 2015

Urban Jungle Bloggers | Spring styling | These Four Walls blog

This month’s Urban Jungle Bloggers theme is all about emerging from winter hibernation and bringing a touch of spring inside as Easter approaches.

The timing is perfect, as I’ve been trying to find ways to add a bit of new-season freshness to our third bedroom. It’s currently being redecorated and at the moment consists only of a bed and a small side table, but it will be used by visiting friends and family over the Easter break so I want to make it as welcoming as possible.

I’ve been given a few hyacinth bulbs recently and I was very excited to discover from one of my all-time favourite blogs A Quiet Style that they don’t need soil for nutrients, so I decided to free them from their pots and transfer them into glass tumblers to display in the bedroom. All I had to do was gently untangle the roots of each bulb (I had some feline help for this bit!), then wash off the soil and put them in water. Voila!

I now have hyacinths dotted all over the house, including a cluster on the mantelpiece in the lounge. They haven’t fully bloomed yet, but they add a lovely pop of greenery and they look very striking next to vases of simple white flowers. Here’s hoping the petals emerge in time for our guests!

Wow, Spring is here, Abi! Your styling looks gorgeous and and I can almost smell the hyacinths <3 I had a few bulbs last year and once they fully bloomed and faded, I put the bulbs in the ground in our garden. I didn't think of them anymore but the other day I saw 2 tiny hyacinths in the middle of the grass! I don't know if you have a garden (or a balcony with some extra pots, but it may be an idea to plant them somewhere in a few weeks 😉 Thank you for joining us again!

A few snaps from the gorgeous @gubiofficial showro A few snaps from the gorgeous @gubiofficial showroom in London, which I visited during @clerkenwelldesignweek earlier this week. I missed the opening event for this last year, so it was great to finally have a look around in person. The light is stunning, as is GUBI's selection of contemporary and classic designs - including the sculptural and futuristic F300 lounge chair, first designed by Pierre Paulin in the 1960s and recently relaunched.

Which room or corner is your favourite...?

Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist then so I'm using our anniversary as an excuse to share some of my favourite wedding photos.

I have so many happy memories from the day, but what I remember the most is all the laughter. And the funniest best men's (Chris had four!) speech I've ever heard. I wish we'd had a videographer just to capture that.

Anyway, thanks @small_round_things for the last eight years - and for the 13 before we actually got around to tying the knot!

I now have this design in three different colourways around the house, and this is definitely my favourite to date!
