The TypeO Loft – a minimalist one-room B&B in Skåne, southern Sweden

The TypeO Loft - a minimalist one-room B&B in Skåne, southern Sweden | These Four Walls blog

Today I have a bit of travel inspiration to help tide us over until we can head off on holiday in real life: a peek inside the just-launched TypeO Loft in Skåne, southern Sweden.

Described as a ‘one-room B&B’, it’s the work of design studio TypeO and sits in the rolling countryside of Österlen, 50 minutes from Malmö. It’s an area that I know and love, and definitely somewhere I’d recommend for a relaxing break: it’s only an hour’s drive from Copenhagen Airport via the Öresund Bridge, and it’s dotted with sandy beaches, orchards and pretty fishing villages. The cobbled town of Ystad and the idyllic Stenshuvuds National Park are also within easy reach.

As for the loft itself, it looks stunning. An open-plan space of 50sqm, it forms part of a farmstead dating from 1842 and has been renovated inside and out. Owners Micha and Magnus were highly selective about every element, only choosing pieces that are as functional as they are beautiful, and the result is a minimalist haven that encourages rest and relaxation. I particularly love the earthy colour palette, the natural textures, and the way clean-lined, contemporary pieces sit alongside the gnarled wood of the original beams and trusses.

The main living area has been designed to make the most of the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, with a vintage Ligne Roset sofa where you can sit back and gaze out over fields and forests. There’s also a vintage ‘Noguchi’ coffee table by Isamu Noguchi for Vitra, plus a beautiful kilim rug and soft linen cushions from By Mölle. And beyond is a terrace with sweeping views – the perfect spot for morning coffee or a sunset glass of wine.

The sleeping area features an ‘Anna’ headboard – a joint design from Norm Architects and Swedish bed company Dux, which was launched at the Stockholm Design Fair in 2019 and also appeared at the ‘Sculptor’s Residence’ exhibition at this year’s event. It’s paired with minimalist brass lamps from Rubn and a vintage console table from Willy Rizzo. The bathroom is similarly understated, with its concrete counter, rustic wooden stool and black fixtures and fittings.

The loft is let out on a self-catering basis, but if you don’t feel like cooking you can pre-order meal kits brimming with local produce. If you do fancy whipping up a feast, however, you’ll find everything you need in the sleek ash and grey-limestone kitchen, which was designed by Nordiska Kök. What’s more, the fridge comes ready stocked with breakfast items, snacks and drinks.

All in all, it looks like a wonderful place to unwind and de-stress. It’s certainly shot to the top of my post-pandemic travel wishlist…

I missed the opening event for this last year, so it was great to finally have a look around in person. The light is stunning, as is GUBI's selection of contemporary and classic designs - including the sculptural and futuristic F300 lounge chair, first designed by Pierre Paulin in the 1960s and recently relaunched.

Which room or corner is your favourite...?

Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist then so I'm using our anniversary as an excuse to share some of my favourite wedding photos.

I have so many happy memories from the day, but what I remember the most is all the laughter. And the funniest best men's (Chris had four!) speech I've ever heard. I wish we'd had a videographer just to capture that.

Anyway, thanks @small_round_things for the last eight years - and for the 13 before we actually got around to tying the knot!

I now have this design in three different colourways around the house, and this is definitely my favourite to date!
