One of the dilemmas I often face when decorating is how to add personal touches to the airy, minimal style that I’m naturally drawn to. I’ve collected plenty of quirky bits and bobs over the years (the latest being a set of vintage sewing machines inherited from my grandmother), and I’m always trying to find ways to display them without creating too much clutter.
So, when I spotted this gorgeous apartment in the Swedish city of Gothenburg on various websites earlier this year, it gave me plenty of ideas. It belongs to a musician, and I love the way the owner has paired clean lines and a neutral grey and white colour scheme with items that reflect her passion (instruments on the walls, a record player in the lounge, a music stand in the bedroom). There are some fabulous textures scattered around, too; I particularly like the sheepskin-strewn leather chair, the cowhide rug and the Eos goose-feather lightshade (in fact, I’ve recently bought the latter for myself). The overall effect is sleek yet full of character – the perfect combination in my book!
