Well, Christmas is over and a new year has dawned already. I hope you all had a wonderful festive break, wherever you were and however you celebrated. Ours tuned out a little differently than planned as our cat fell ill, which meant we had to head back to Bristol earlier than planned. Thankfully he seems to be on the mend and is gradually returning to his normal self; I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy to hear his 5am ‘feed me’ yowling as I was this morning!
Despite our feline troubles, we still had time to relax and regroup, and we even saw a glimmer of blue sky in between all the rain. As a result, I’ve started 2016 feeling refreshed and excited about what lies ahead.
I always think a new year is like a blank page in a book, and I can’t wait to start filling it with stories. In 2016, I have a feeling they’re going to revolve around two themes. The first is adventure. I have some exciting travels coming up, beginning with a longed-for trip to Iceland in a few weeks’ time, but I’m also planning a few ‘life’ adventures. I want to throw caution to the wind, let my dreams fly and see what happens. I know it will involve risks, but then all good plots have some twists and turns along the way.
The other theme is simplicity. This year I want to shed mental and physical clutter and focus on the things that really matter to me: my friends and family, this blog and other creative ventures, and my volunteering work. I also want to take time to make the most of all the small moments in life that I’ve recently been too busy to savour – breathing in lung-fuls of fresh air on long weekend walks, getting lost in a good book, giggling with old friends over a glass or two of wine…
As for These Four Walls, I have some exciting new collaborations in the pipeline, and I’ve finally got around to creating a Facebook page. I’m also planning a regular newsletter where I’ll share more interiors, travel and lifestyle inspiration from around the web, and you can sign up in the sidebar to the left. So, here’s to 2016 and all it may bring. I hope it’s a magical year for you all.
